Yahoo To Compete With Google Hangouts Purchases OnTheAir

Yahoo has acquired OnTheAir a communication app that allows video chat broadcasting. It offers users the capability to chat in combination with live broadcasting with either a single or split-screens. As a result, it can envisaged that Yahoo will try now to compete a solution that is similar to that of Google Hangouts or even perhaps develop further the technology and then offer more solutions.

The differentiating factor on the OnTheAir app is that it offers the capability for producers to engage with viewers during a broadcast by having a split screen for chat conversations with users. Furthermore, the app allows producers to receive real-time requests from viewers that would like to join as guests during the broadcast thus enabling engagement and participation for viewers.
